Academician Xie Lixin was selected into the list of 2025 Highly Cited Chinese Researchers

On January 30, 2026, Elsevier officially released the 2025 list of "Highly Cited Chinese Researchers". A total of 11 experts in the field of ophthalmology in China were selected, and Academician Xie Lixin from Qingdao Eye Hospital affiliated to Shandong First Medical University was included in the list for three consecutive years.
This ranking utilizes Scopus, a globally authoritative citation and indexing database, as the source for statistics on the scientific research achievements of Chinese scholars. It adopts the methodology developed by Shanghai Ranking Education Information Consulting Co., Ltd. and utilizes multiple indicators to systematically present the scientific research contributions and innovative value of Chinese scholars in various disciplines. It has become one of the key benchmarks for measuring the academic influence of institutions and has garnered significant attention from numerous media outlets and scholars both domestically and internationally.

Academician Xie Lixin is primarily engaged in applied basic research and clinical diagnosis and treatment of corneal diseases and cataracts in ophthalmology. He has made outstanding contributions particularly in the fields of corneal endothelial cell application theory, infectious corneal diseases, cataract surgery technique improvement, and intraocular drug delivery via implant. He is a leader in the field of corneal diseases in China, a pioneer in cataract phacoemulsification minimally invasive surgery, and one of the main founders of China's eye bank construction. After returning to China, he founded the Shandong Provincial Institute of Ophthalmology. After more than 30 years of entrepreneurial development, the Institute has become a well-known domestic ophthalmology professional institution integrating scientific research, teaching, medical treatment, blindness prevention, and optometry industry. He has won 3 second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 6 first prizes of the Shandong Science and Technology Progress Award, and 1 highest award of Shandong Science and Technology. He has published 5 monographs on corneal diseases with People's Medical Publishing House, edited, translated, and co-authored 30 books, and published more than 700 academic papers. He has successively won awards such as the "Golden Key Award" from the Sino-US Ophthalmology Society, the Outstanding Achievement Award of the Chinese Ophthalmology Society, the Achievement Award of the American Ophthalmology Society, the "Arthur Lim Award" and "De Ocampo Award" from the Asia-Pacific Ophthalmology Society, the Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, the Academic Achievement Award of the Asian Cornea Foundation, the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Chinese Ophthalmology Society, and the Wu Jieping Medical Award. He has trained effective candidates for academicians, recipients of the National Natural Science Foundation of China's Youth Science Fund (Category A), distinguished professors of the Ministry of Education's Changjiang Scholars Program, and experts in the Shandong Taishan Scholar Series, and has trained more than 150 master's and doctoral students.
